Every day, I am grateful for the privilege of doing this work—being a Kids Confidence Coach is deeply rewarding, especially when delivering immediate, life-changing support to young people.

A Year 9 student was experiencing severe anxiety and a critical lack of self-belief. This manifested in physical tension, difficulty making eye contact, and near-total verbal freeze responses. The communication barrier had grown so severe that interacting with parents, peers, and school staff was almost impossible.

Concerned for her overall well-being and academic engagement, the school’s Family Support Worker referred her for 1-to-1 Coaching.

The Coaching Journey

Our structured coaching framework is designed to meet young people exactly where they are—building safety, trust, and practical self-regulation tools at a comfortable pace.

Working directly with children to build early, meaningful connections allows us to equip them with practical strategies to manage real-time emotions and navigate life’s challenges more effectively.

The process uses a phased, flexible coaching framework that meets the young person where they are, moving from non-verbal safety to active self-regulation:

  1. Somatic Regulation & Low-Pressure Trust: The journey begins by removing all verbal pressure, using somatic mapping (“How My Body Talks”) to identify physical stress and introducing gentle breathwork alongside a visualisation tool to soothe the nervous system.
  2. Bypassing the Freeze Response: To tackle severe anxiety and negative self-talk, emotional processing is bridged through inner-child work. Facilitators then applying confidence visualisation to anchor positive emotional states before practicing live verbal responses.
  3. Real-World Application & Positive Reinforcement: Once basic regulation is achieved, sessions map real-world progress using creative tools to focus on positive triggers, ensuring the pupil recognizes and reinforces their wins in school and home life.
  4. Custom Consolidation for Long-Term Embedding: The framework adapts by adding extra practice—such as interactive recap games and body language techniques—to lock in self-assurance and turn newly discovered confidence into sustainable leadership skills.

“These sessions have helped me to feel confident and calm. I have never felt as calm and confident as I do now.” Year 9 Student

“She is now able to speak to me and have a conversation. Before the sessions with Laura, she would only nod or shrug her shoulders—she was completely unable to respond verbally.” Family Support Worker

I meet students where they are, utilising non-verbal tools until safety and trust are fully established. Students leave with concrete physical and mental techniques they can deploy immediately under pressure. While guided by a clear roadmap, sessions can be customised and extended to ensure tools are permanently embedded for life.
